J apan was my first solo trip and the farthest from home I had ever been. My mom gave me a camera before I left, a small point-and-shoot that I still have to this very day. I didn't really use it much because I worked 60 hours a week, but then my girlfriend visited me on her holidays and we started to explore the city.

I still like that I managed to capture the loneliness I felt in these places. Everything public was essentially deserted during the day, the playgrounds, the parks, because everyone, even the children, was working hard. So we strayed there all by ourselves and tried to photograph that feeling. But goddamn it, so many beautiful bits of the city, the opportunity of a lifetime, and of all the motives, I decide to take photos of... vending machines!
